What to know about using NYU Libraries for Spring 2022.


In response to the University's updated safety protocols the Libraries' have adjusted services for the spring semester.

Building & Space Updates:

Bobst Stacks and Classroom Access
(Updated 1/27/22)

We will add hours as campus conditions improve.

Hours for January 24 - January 30:

  • LL1, LL2, and Floor 1: Study areas open 24/7.
  • Stacks on all floors:Noon to 1:00 AM.
  • Floors 7 and 8: Classroom access only 7:30 AM to noon. General use noon to 1:00 AM.
  • Floor 5: Study use 7:30 AM to 1:00 AM for study.

Hours for January 31 Onward:

  • LL1, LL2, and Floor 1: study areas open 24/7.
  • Stacks on all floors: 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM daily.
  • Floor 8: Classroom access only 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. General use 10:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
  • Floor 5: Study use 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM.

Bobst Reference and Computer Center Services Now in the Atrium

Research & Reference Services, and Computer Services have relocated to the service desk in the atrium, alongside Circulation & Reserves.

Group & Individual Study Rooms

Group and individual study rooms in Bobst, Dibner, and Jack Brause Libraries will remain closed until further notice.

Services Updates:

Library services will have shortened hours for the first few weeks of the spring semester.

We hope to add hours as conditions on campus improve but there may be hours changes or service point closures if there are staffing shortages.
  • Circulation, Reference, Computer Services, Avery Fisher Center (AFC), and Data Services will be open from noon to 5:00 PM.
    • Digital Studio will be virtual service only until February 14th.
  • Other services (Liaisons, Data Services, Digital Studio, etc.) will continue to be available by appointment.
  • Virtual Reference services (AAL) will be available 24/7.
  • Special Collections services will be by appointment only.

NYU-NY Library services are offered virtually, buildings are open.


In response to the University's updated safety protocols the Libraries has changed some services through January Term.

Buildings and Spaces Changes:

  • Bobst and Dibner buildings, including, are open but with updated hours.
  • Group study study rooms are closed at all library locations
  • Visitor access is not permitted.

Service Changes:

Services are available virtually during regular hours, unless otherwise noted.

  • Reference Services are available on Ask-A-Librarian chat, email, and text.
  • Client Services
    • The Bobst Library Computer Center (BLCC) closed for January Term
      • No new loans will be made.
      • All outstanding loans that have not been returned by 5:00 PM Friday, December 17 will have their loans extended until the end of January 2022.
    • Helpdesk support is offered virtually.
  • Bobst Circulation and Reserve Services desk is closed.
    • Call 212-998-2475 or email lib-circuation@nyu.edu during regular business hours for assistance.
    • Self-checkout is available for stacks items.
    • Locker delivery requests can be made online. Locker pickup is available anytime the building is open.
  • The Dibner Library service desk is closed for in-person service.

  • Avery Fisher Center’s desk is closed. Staff can answer questions via email at afc-admin-group@nyu.edu.
  • Data Services in-person service is closed but help is available virtually. Email data.services@nyu.edu for appointments.
  • Digital Studio walk-in service is closed with only virtual services available. Email digital.studio@nyu.edu for help.
  • Special Collections reading room is closed. Email special.collections@nyu.edu for information about virtual service availability.
